One Month Anniversary

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Ok, so I promise not to make you relive our wedding each month on the 27th...but yesterday was our one month wedding anniversary! The husband got the day off to a great start by surprising me with pancakes for breakfast. He's such a sweetie!

To celebrate I thought I'd share some more wedding pictures with you! This time from our beautiful ceremony. All pictures are from our photographer - Brewer Photography. I absolutely love them! They did a fabulous job with our pictures...exactly what I wanted! There are some wonderful pictures up on their blog.

Can't Wait for Spring!

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Yesterday we had a spring teaser here in VA with temperatures reaching 60 degrees! That quickly vanished though and now we're back in the 30s and 40s. If the weather insists on being this cold it really should just go ahead and snow (which I think is coming our way this weekend)!

I'm so sick of winter clothes. I am definitely a dresses and skirts kind of girl and I'm over wearing pants so often! The spring Lilly line is out online today and I'm in pink and green heaven! Here are just some of my favorites.

Del Mar Dress Ric Rac (aquamarine seeing things)

Bowen Dress Jacquard (classic white circle of roses)

Adelson Shift Gold Lace (pink salmon)

Andover Dress Printed Lawn (prep green hit the spot) - I love the lace on this one!

I also pre-ordered the Roslyn Skirt Pandamonium yesterday morning. This is the picture online.

I love the print, but for me it's too much for a dress (although the minnie dress is ADORABLE). I think I'll love the skirt, but I'll have to see it in person to be sure! It's definitely different than the usual Lilly (since it's their first black and white print) and the Pandas are super cute! What are your thoughts on Pandamonium?

Weekend Recap

Monday, January 25, 2010

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Mine was very productive. On Saturday the husband and I went to look at an apartment we are considering (we're moving this summer - finally)! We also looked at a townhouse Friday afternoon that I really like. One demand I have for our new place...it must have more closets! We have a serious lack of closet space at our current apartment and between my ever expanding wardrobe and my obsession with organizing it's constantly driving me crazy!

After apartment hunting we ran a few errands and came upon a great find in the clearance section at Bed Bath and Beyond...the Menorah Mate! It's a mat you place under your Hanukkah menorah so the wax doesn't ruin anything when it drips. It also has all three blessings for Hanukkah printed on it in Hebrew, the transliteration, and English!

Here's a picture I found on their website (yes...there is a menorahmate.com...)

On Sunday the husband was busy studying away for the USMLE (he takes it in April) so I had plenty of time to get things done around our home. I got caught up on laundry, did a little organizing, and rearranged the furniture in our dining room! I am constantly rearranging or redecorating our home and trying to find even more ways to organize. (I am definitely an organizing junkie)

Our dining room has the unfortunate trait of also being our entryway. If we're not careful mail, keys, gloves, and all sorts of things can easily clutter it up. I needed a little inspiration for fixing this problem so I turned to the internet (more specifically to marthastewart.com).

(Not sure why it's necessary for us to have four different locks on our door...)

The three magazine holders are for sorting mail and the green bowl is for keys or other small things that might accumulate - like the little piles of change my husband leaves in several places around the house when he empties out his pockets... The green bin is for larger items that don't have a home (like umbrellas) and anything that is sitting around and needs to be put away. I put magazines and catalogs that need to be recycled in the blue bin. What do you do with old magazines/catalogs? I feel terrible throwing them out, but since we have to drop off our recycling I don't want them piling up until I decide to take them.

I also moved our dining room table from the center of the room to diagonally towards one corner. The room is still a little bland looking, but I think it's because the walls are white! I think the reason I'm constantly redecorating here is because we can't paint the walls and I need more color. I guess I shouldn't worry about it too much since we're moving in a few months and painting is a must at our next place!

Fun Fashion Finds

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Yesterday was one of the gloomiest days we've had in awhile. The temperature was bobbing around freezing all day and threatening to turn the non-stop rain into ice (yuck)! I definitely needed a trip to the Lilly store to brighten my mood!

I finally bought the Hibiscus printed skort that I've been loving since it arrived. I just adore this print!

I also found these adorable pink and green Steven Salario sandals. They were on sale for 40% off!! Now if only the spring weather would hurry up so I could wear them. (I have a feeling they'll be unused for a few more months though...)

They had their first shipment of Spring in too! I tried on two very cute dresses, but since I still have resort dresses I haven't been able to wear yet I couldn't bring myself to buy them. (I don't know if that would be common sense to most people...but I was patting myself on the back for my self control!) I think they should get more Spring in soon (they'll call me when it comes in) so we'll see how well my self control holds up then...

After Lilly I stopped by Anthro to see if they had any fabulous sales or new Spring arrivals. I just have to put in a positive review for the Reed Shirtdress. I thought it looked nice on the hanger, but when I put it on I was in love! Several of the shirtdresses they've had lately have not been a flattering fit for me. I was so excited to find this one! If you like shirtdresses I seriously recommend trying this one!

It looks super cute with this belt too!

I must leave you with some cute pictures of the Poe Cat! He was being super adorable and snuggly last night! Until he was over it and decided to take over my computer case and the box I still haven't gotten rid of!

My New Computer

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Thank you so much for all the helpful computer advice! Husband and I went to BestBuy tonight and I got a fabulous new MacBook! I love it...I'm so glad I made the switch. Right after leaving BestBuy we stopped in at World Market (right next door to BestBuy so I was carrying the computer box). The cashier saw it and started telling me about how she was thinking of switching to Mac because she had so many problems with her current and past laptops (both HPs). She kept having to restore them to the factory setting too! I didn't really need anymore convincing that Mac was the way for me to go, but that really seemed like a good sign!

I couldn't resist getting a fun pink case!

In Need of Advice!

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

So last week my laptop decided to die on me. More specifically the man at BestBuy told me the hard drive failed...great. Instead of paying the $4oo it would cost to have it fixed (since this is the second time in like 6 months I would have to restore it to the factory setting) I am just going to buy a new one!

My dilemma is: what brand? My last two laptops have been HPs and have given me problems...so HP is out. I'm thinking either Mac or Dell. Husband has a Mac and really loves it, but I can't decide if I want to make the switch from a PC. Help! Does anyone have any experience with or opinions on Mac or Dell? I am so over dealing with computer issues...I just want one that is reliable!

Weekend in NYC

Monday, January 18, 2010

I spent a fabulous three day weekend visiting my sister in NYC. She is an apparel design major in her last semester of college doing an internship at Marie Claire. So cool!

We spent the weekend wandering around Manhattan and doing some shopping. Of course, I had to make a stop at the Lilly store! I found an originals skirt that I've been wanting but the store here didn't have my size. I also found this super cute 2010 planner for half off! Even my sister, who is not a Lilly Pulitzer wearer, found some fabulous sunglasses.

On Sunday afternoon we decided to try some boutiques in SOHO. By the time we got there it was dark, freezing cold, and rainy...and we had no idea where we were going! We decided to give up and head to Bloomindales instead, but while attempting to figure out how to get there we stumbled upon the cutest little boutique! What a lucky find! We both left with quite a few fun new purchases!

Being the candy obsessed girl that I am, I couldn't leave NYC without a trip to Dylan's Candy Bar. There is a small one in the Bloomingdales in Orlando that I hit up at least once (ok, probably several times) when I'm there. This one was three stories and I was definitely in candy store heaven!

On my way back from the airport today I made a quick stop at Crate and Barrel to buy new dishes and flatware. (Had to make it a quick trip because I could go crazy in that store if I let myself...) Finally no more crazy Southwestern plates!

Crafting Fun

Friday, January 15, 2010

Now that the wedding planning is over I actually have free time again! (Although I am still finishing up my thank you notes from the wedding) Lately I've been filling my newly rediscovered free time with some of my favorite hobbies: beading, crafting, and DIY. I love it!

One of my projects this week was a recipe "scrapbook" full of all the recipes I from the numerous cooking magazines that were piling up in our home. I hate clutter so these really had to go! There are always several recipes in each magazine that I know I would use if I didn't have to look through an entire stack to find them.

For the beginning of each section I attached the title to an envelope where I can store notes or maybe a few more magazine recipes I find.

I also made this cute little bag. I made it out of a placemat I found while wandering around World Market the other day. I love the pattern, but I have too many placemats already so I had to come up with another use for it! I think it's perfect for a little bag. I used cream 1 1/2 inch grosgrain ribbon to make the straps. Super easy!

Now I need to find my next project!

The Honeymoon

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I'm finally getting around to the honeymoon post! I tried not to put an overwhelming amount of pictures...but there are just so many I wanted to post!

After our fabulous wedding, we left the reception and went to the airport to catch our flight to Spain. We arrived in Madrid early the next afternoon and then took the high speed train to Seville. When the cab driver dropped us off at our hotel that night is was cold and pouring down rain. We we walked through the huge iron door leading into the lobby the atmosphere completely changed - it was warm and comfortable, with classical music playing in the background. I loved the contrast between the dark, cold rain and the atmosphere in the hotel! They also had classical music playing when we walked into our room.

Our hotel room

We spent most of our time wandering around Seville (and doing a little shopping). The city is absolutely beautiful! I loved the orange trees lining each street.

We also took a day trip to Cordoba one day (about a 30 minute trip on the high speed train). One of three remaining synagogues in Spain is in Cordoba. There is also a house connected with the synagogue to tour and a little gift shop where we bought a mezuzah made by a local artist for our back door.

Not sure what this is, but it was pretty so I took a picture of Nick with it!

We spent the last couple days of our trip in Madrid, but by then we were so exhausted. We went to the Prado, but other than that we just did a lot of relaxing.

The only thing I didn't like about Spain was the food...lots of meat and seafood. (Neither of which I am really a fan of eating). After not eating much for the first few days, I decided we were going to have to eat something besides Andalusian food! I think we found every Italian restaurant in Seville! We decided when we go back for an anniversary trip we'll go to Seville for a few days and then to Italy for a reminder of all the food we ate on our honeymoon!

We had such a wonderful time!

The Wedding: Part 2

Monday, January 11, 2010

Happy Monday...it's freezing in Virginia and even with the heat on high I cannot get warm! Get excited though because temperatures might climb all the way into the forties later this week. It's practically a heat wave!

Still no pictures from the photographer, but I did get a few more pictures from my sister.

Love this one
